“The
story broadcast last night on ‘Today Tonight’ contains a number of very
serious allegations about the Medical Board, its governance, and the protection
of the public interest. For these
matters to be properly explored it needs to be done in the context of a
Parliamentary Committee where questions can be asked of the Medical Board, and
those that have legitimate grievances against the Board can also have an
opportunity to state their case.”

issue of doctors who have a drug problem is a vexed one.
I am all for such doctors getting appropriate help and rehabilitation –
but the paramount concern of the Medical Board should be the protection of the
public interest and the health and safety of South Australians.
The public has a right to know whether the allegations made last night on
‘Today Tonight’ are indicative of a deeper systemic malaise in the way that
doctors who pose a risk to the public are dealt with”.
